RECRUITMENT OF JRF IN DST-SERB SPONSORED RESEARCH PROJECT
Applications are invited for open interview from eligible candidates for filling up the following
temporary position for a sponsored project from the DST – Science and Engineering Research Board
(SERB) to be undertaken in the Department of Biotechnology of NIPER- Ahmedabad. The position is
temporary, and the offer will be initially for One Year that can be extended further one year based on
the performance and will be co-terminus with the project. If the candidate also fulfills the institute
criteria, admission in Ph.D. through NIPER entrance may be considered. The requisite qualification &
experience etc., are given below.
Project Title: Slow afterhyperpolarization is the mechanism that determines the differential excitability pattern of dorsoventral hippocampal neurons, a potential target for temporal lobe epilepsy.

Funding Agency: DST – SERB, Government of India.
Position: Junior Research Fellow (1 Post).
Salary: Rs.31000 + 24% HRA (As per DST SERB norms).
Age Limit: 35 Years as on date of interview (Relaxation in the age for SC/ST/OBC, women and physically handicapped candidates as per government of India norms).
Qualification:
• M.Sc./M.Tech/MPharm/Masters degree in Biotechnology / Neuroscience / Life Sciences / Microbiology / Biochemistry / or Equivalent with minimum 60% marks in degree.
• The candidate should have experience in cell culture / dissociated neuronal cultures / animal handling / Lenti/AAV virus packaging
and purification / stereotactic surgeries on rodents / Molecular biology / analytical biochemistry / fluorescence microscopy.
• Experience with patch clamp electrophysiology / EEG recordings will be an advantage.
Job Profile:
The primary focus of this project are:
1. To perform DNA/mRNA isolation, real time PCR, protein isolation, western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation and proteinprotein interaction studies.
2. Carryout hippocampal dissociated neuronal cultures from neonatal and adult rodents.
3. To generate lenti/AAV viral particles for various ion channels/proteins and perform transfection into neuronal cultures and stereotactic injection into rodent brain hippocampus.
4. Conduct electrophysiological patch clamp recording on isolated cells and brain slices in voltage and current clamp mode to study the neuronal excitation patterns.
5. Writing of research articles, patents, and other related documentation.
